A New Day the Trump Way

Anxiety or Opportunity?

By: HernĂ¡n Pulido

In the latest reports and in the presidential campaign Donald Trump mention various changes regarding universities, financial status, and student debts. In overseas there are two big factors that can change the whole education system in the US. One is privatizing the Government Federal Funds and giving it to entities and banks who will manage the loans directly with the students, and the other is lowering the cost and regulations to universities so students can have a more affordable education.
With these two topics come a lot of important things to have in consideration, some will cause a lot of optimism and others anxiety to former, current and future students. Due to these possible changes previously discussed these factors are seen with huge optimism
·      Student debts will be modified in an income-based repayment, where borrowers will pay 12.5 of their salary for 15 years and the remaining balance will be forgiven.
·      Trump has discussed removing taxes to university so students could see those savings on their student accounts.
·      For-profit universities. This idea is based on creating universities that can prove they prepare students for well-paid jobs.
As far as what makes the population anxious
·      Trump wants to privatize the Government federal funds and have banks or specialized entities manage all the student loans, which is freaking most people out because specialist say that this will lead to higher rates and fewer people getting loans.

In conclusion, students are optimistic as far as their future regarding education cost and student debt repayment but anxious about the government participation on student loans.
